Connor Ermir Bradshaw
Playwriting & Theatre.
Hey there! My name is Connor Ermir Bradshaw and I'm a Chicago-based, Midwestern-raised playwright and editor. In the past, I have worked with Victory Gardens Theatre, TimeLine Theatre, Adventure Stage Chicago, iO Theatre, Citadel Theatre, and Poetry East. In 2018, I was commissioned by Victory Gardens to write a 10-minute play, FLIGHTLESS. My most recent play, BOXED IN, was recently adapted into a virtual, multimedia podcast in association with The Theatre School at DePaul University, where it was previously developed in the Wrights of Spring new play festival. My play, SUPER-RON, was also developed through Wrights of Spring. In 2019, I was named the recipient of the Zach Helm Endowed Playwriting Scholarship.
As a storyteller, I focus on the forgotten narratives, or the narratives that have been buried.
As a producer and editor, I focus on marketing and re-envisioning the narratives that surround a brand, an identity, or show.
"Detailed writing consultations should not cost hundreds of dollars"
My degrees in English and Playwriting have cemented my learning in workshop environments and literary theory. Every writer needs their creations read, and by using practices implemented by noted linguists and psychologists, John Nordlof, Lev Vygotsky, John Hayes, and Linda Flowers, I work with each writer who approaches me on conceptualizing a plan that enhances choices and emboldens risk-taking. I've augmented my learning with pedagogical courses to fine-tune literary criticism in fields that range from the dramatic to the scholastic, so any writer that comes to me can feel comfortable with presenting whatever form their writing takes!
A key aspect of my mission as an artist hinges on accessibility. Because of this, I use a sliding scale with each writer that consults with me. Detailed writing consultations should not cost hundreds of dollars. I additionally offer a complimentary 30-minute consultation with each writer before a commitment is made to ensure I am the correct editor for the project.
WHY I WRITE
They carried all they could bear, and then some, including a silent awe for the terrible power of the things they carried. I want you to feel what I felt. I want you to know why story-truth is truer sometimes than happening-truth.
- Tim O'Brien
I write to excavate. My writing burrows under surfaces that have been tread on, but rarely dug into—my writing stems from a desire to unearth a truth; a coarse and unpolished truth. The kind of truth that takes years to find and decades to confront. The kind of truth that releases itself in tight whispers at church or screaming matches at the dinner table. The kind of truth that stings like finally tearing off a hangnail.
